Trainees at a partnering site present information to the staff and health care providers related to de-escalation techniques. Staff at the site indicated a need for such training for use with patients who come in to the clinic and become highly emotional and sometimes aggressive. It was also suggested that there was a particular need for this type of training for employees to use when they are involved in stressful situations with one another. Each de-escalation training is an hour long and includes a presentation of ideas on how to deal with individuals who are becoming escalated and a discussion on how staff members and providers have used such techniques in the past, how they could have been more effectively used in the past, and how they can be incorporated in the future. The response to the training from staff and providers is overwhelmingly positive.
