DEPARTMENT NAME CHANGE COMING SOON!!!
Soon, the Physical Education Exercise Science and Wellness Department will be changing its name to Kinesiology and Public Health Educaction ~ KPHE. This name change will not change the quality or content of our degree offerings, but will better identify our students by their specialty area of study.
Welcome to our website. As you browse through our site, you will learn about our programs, faculty, staff, and students. Our programs are designed for individuals interested in teaching physical education, athletic coaching, careers in the health and fitness industry, or continuing their education with graduate studies in Kinesiology or other health-related professions. PXW also provides Basic Instructional Program (BIP) classes for all UND students with over 50 different courses covering a wide variety of sport, aquatic, dance and fitness activities.
Setting
Our 549-acre campus is located in Grand Forks, a city of over 51,000 people with a very low crime rate, excellent schools and neighborly people. Grand Forks offers a variety of educational and leisure opportunities. Our location is well situated for hiking, cycling, running, cross-country skiing and other outdoor pursuits, and it is only several hours’ drive from major centers such as Winnipeg, Canada and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Department
The PXW Department is one of the oldest professional programs at the University of North Dakota. There are approximately 150 undergraduate majors, 100 undergraduate minors, and 30 graduate students enrolled in our programs, making it large enough to provide a comprehensive curriculum, yet small enough to ensure relatively small classes and ready access to professors and instructors. The department is housed in the Hyslop Gymnasium complex, along with its athletic facilities, physiology lab, swimming pool, fitness center, offices, classrooms, and computer labs.
Faculty
One reason our graduates excel is because of the quality of instruction they receive. We have a demanding and caring faculty who are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service to our students, community, and profession. The faculty is committed to personal instruction and to helping you shape an education suited to your personal goals. We also have two faculty members who are responsible for undergraduate and graduate advising, respectively, and who will interpret program requirements, help select courses, and assist in proper course sequencing.
Admission
To enroll in PXW classes other than PXW 100/BIP classes, a student needs to be enrolled at UND and to have declared PXW as a major and/or declared Athletic Coaching or Health Education as a minor.
