What Are Students Saying?
“I didn’t understand how this could possibly benefit me until I was in it. It truly gave me a chance to stop and reflect about where I’ve been as a teacher and where I want to go from here. Challenging but very beneficial.”
“I can honestly say that my time spent in the classroom for my full-time practicum proved to be the most enjoyable, rewarding, and was the finale of all my coursework of my last two years at UND. The course work and the feedback provided allowed critical thinking opportunities to challenge myself. The actual process of teaching, lesson-planning, parent-teacher collaboration and working with many cultures did provide me confidence for my future endeavors. Thank you so much!!”
“I have really enjoyed all of the coursework for the Masters in Early Childhood Education through UND. One of the things that I like the most about it is that everything seems to connect. There is a purpose for every course. For example, I like how the action research class has helped me to take a look into my classroom and my procedures more thoroughly. This has helped me when taking the practicum because I feel that that is what the practicum has encouraged me to do as well. I have also enjoyed the literacy and language courses throughout the program. I feel that they offered valuable tools and tips for improving things in my classroom. I have implemented several and intend to continue.”
“I truly am impressed with the UND MS in ECE program… everything from the beginning to the end of this program has offered valuable knowledge that I have been able to apply directly to the children I teach.”
“Bringing the tools and resources of others into my future teaching has been an immeasurable experience. Having the practicum opportunity to test this knowledge and strategies out in hands-on ways has also been of great value. Through tangible classroom experiences with children individually, the classroom as a whole, and the teaching team, I was able to develop further skills to build upon my teaching knowledge from course work.”
“Recognizing discipline as teaching: “We are no longer tiptoeing around ______ to avoid her emotions, but rather embracing them as they happen and taking the next steps together to help her relax again.”
“Completing my Master’s program, including this practicum, has given me the ability to ground all my professional ideas in research.”
“The two biggest improvements to my skills as a professional were my ability to self-reflect on my use of proven strategies, as well as enhancing the way in which my students reflect on their own learning.”
International Student Experiences:
“It has been a pleasure to support two of my teachers as they worked on their ECE Practicum through the University of North Dakota’s College of Education and Human Development. Our school has gained immensely by having our teachers participate in the UND Masters program. The courses provided perfect opportunities for the teachers to learn, apply and then share their new knowledge and resources with their colleagues. Based on an action research project from one of their classes, our entire (5 sections) Pre-Kindergarten grade level shifted toward a project based approach to student learning. They were able to take what they learned in their courses and directly apply their knowledge to enhance our program and our student’s learning. Further, it has been a pleasure to get to know the faculty at UND and I sincerely hope more international teachers will participate in the UND program in the future.” Daniel E., Practicum Supervisor, Head of School, Shanghai, China
