Students who complete the courses listed below will be eligible for ELL teacher endorsement in North Dakota. Students interested in ESL/ELL teaching in other states should meet with the ELL program coordinator to determine what additional courses may be necessary. In order to receive ELL teacher endorsement, students must be licensed to teach in Elementary, Middle Level or Secondary classrooms.

Six credit hours in a modern language. (Teachers planning to work with American Indian students should take appropriate American Indian languages.)
Three elective credits in English chosen in consultation with adviser. (English 309 is recommended.) These requirements may be impacted by change at the federal and state level.
Students seeking bilingual endorsement must complete an additional course in bilingual education.
