BiPed Lab
Using technology to improve teaching.
Unique endeavors in Kinesiology integrate key aspects which allow for exploration of innovative approaches in both biomechanics and teaching.
In the above video, Erika Ettl and Emily Lundby, two Physical Education Teacher Education students, assist in demonstrating the capabilities of our BiPed lab. This clip highlights the collection of 3D Kinematic data through our Vicon motion analysis system. This system gathers infrared light which is reflected off of the unique suits both Erika and Emily are wearing. Specialized cameras collect the reflected infrared data that is converted into a three dimensional representation of the observed activities. The Vicon system is widely known as being at the forefront of motion capture technology. Similar to KHPE’s, the collection methods are identical to techniques utilized by both motion pictures and video game industries. Most importantly, through their experiences in the BiPed lab, our students are regularly exposed to state of the art technology.
