New Online Student Resources
Congratulations and welcome! Read on for important information and next steps to take in preparing for your time at UND.
As a new online student, there are several steps you must complete to gain access to the university’s resources and courses. Here are ten steps to prepare you for success. Complete them to be fully prepared for classes to begin.
Step 1: Claim Your NDUS Account
Your North Dakota University System (NDUS) account allows you to access a variety of systems that are part of the UND learning environment including Campus Connection, Blackboard, your UND email and proxy access to the Chester Fritz library.

Step 2: Log in to Campus Connection
Campus Connection is the system you will use to register for classes, accept financial aid, pay your tuition bill and more.

The Financial Obligation Agreement must be completed in Campus Connection before enrollment in classes is allowed each semester. To complete this task, go to Campus Connection > Financial Obligation Agreement (under the “Financial Account” tile).
Course Enrollment
Log in to Campus Connection to enroll in your classes. For a step-by-step guide, view the Add Courses dropdown menu. Contact your department if you need a permission number.

Step 3: Check Your Student Email Account
Important notices are sent from a variety of University offices to your official UND student email. Be sure to check it frequently for updates, announcements and other important information. After you’ve registered for classes, you’ll be able to log in to your UND student email account.
Step 4: Get Textbooks
After you register for classes, visit the UND Bookstore to find out which books or other materials you may need. You have the option to buy or rent new or used textbooks from the UND Bookstore and have them shipped to your residence.
Bookstore Charging
If you have accepted your financial aid award, you may charge your textbooks purchased from the UND Bookstore to your student account.
Step 5: Download Microsoft Office for Free
As a UND student, you’ll receive Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus for free, which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook and more. You may install Office 365 ProPlus on a maximum of 5 home or personally owned PCs/Macs and on a maximum of 5 mobile devices. Office mobile applications are accessible on iPhone and Android phones. Tuition, fees and other charges (minus anticipated financial aid) are due by the following dates:
- Fall: October 15

- Summer: July 15
If applicable, after your financial aid has been applied to your bill, please verify that it covered your total charges or submit payment to pay your outstanding balance.
International Payments
If you live outside the United States and need to make a payment, visit flywire.com/select-institution for directions.
Campus Connection Authorized Payer
If a family member or other outside party helps with your finances, you can set them up as an Authorized Payer. This will allow them to view your monthly e-Bill and make online payments and deposits on your behalf.
To set up an Authorized Payer:
- Log in to Campus Connection
- Click on the “Financial Account” tile
- Click Pay Online Now
- Select UND
- Once in the online payment system, select Authorized Payers from the left hand menu
- From this page, you can add a new Authorized Payer or delete an existing Authorized Payer
Authorized Payers receive monthly e-Bill notifications at the beginning of each month.
Step 7: Sign into Blackboard
Blackboard is UND's course management system. You can access it after you claim your NDUS account.
Every class has its own site on Blackboard, which is listed under “My Courses.” Once you have registered for your course(s), your Student Orientation course will be available to view and complete.
If you need assistance with your course(s) in Blackboard, contact your department.
Step 8: Complete New Student Orientation
Log in to the completely online, self-paced Orientation program with your UND username and password.
Step 9: Get Your U Card
The U Card is UND's student ID card. Cardholders gain access to student discounts and privileges. Online students can benefit from obtaining a U Card as many businesses and nonprofit organizations provide perks for students, regardless of where their school is located.
All enrolled students have the option to purchase a U Card for $20.
Step 10: Contact your Academic Advisor
Once the semester has started, please reach out to your academic advisor to set up a meeting. When you meet with your advisor, they will create an Academic Plan that will outline the courses you will take throughout the program as well as what semester you will take them. Your advisor will be able to answer any questions you may have about your program.
If you haven't already done so, make sure you've taken the necessary steps to apply for financial aid.
Step 1: Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
If you haven’t yet completed the FAFSA, go to studentaid.gov as soon as possible. UND’s school code is 003005.

C. Review account "HOLDS" or "TO-DO LISTS"
In Campus Connection, you’ll be able to see if you have any “Holds” on your account or if Student Financial Aid is waiting for you to complete an item on your “To-Do List,” such as entrance loan counseling. If there are any listed holds or items to do on your account, it can either stop financial aid processing or prevent class registration. To complete the online MPN and ELC sessions:
- Go to studentaid.gov/mpn

applied to your bill. Your charges will be posted in Campus Connection. You can use
the Net Price Calculator tool to obtain an estimate of your expected family contribution based on rates from the
previous academic year.
Step 5: Additional options to help cover costs
